With all due respect to everyone, Charlie Sheen and Mohamar Khadaffi sound very much the same: Out of touch with the real world. Talking as if the all of humanity must bow to their superiority. When the speak their eyes are wide open and sort of wild looking. They both exhibit completely unpredictable behavior. They are both making totally ridiculous demands. They both think they are irreplaceable. They both believe everyone either does or should love them. They both seem to be delusional in every way. The difference is that what Mr. Khadaffi does affects the lives of millions and it's not laughable. Charlie Sheen isn't dangerous except to himself and those in his immediate vicinity.
Charlie Sheen will eventually pass into the night after his tirades become boring and redundant and will have little overall affect on us except as a temporary diversion. What happens with Mr. Khadaffi will ultimately affect the world and he will be rewarded accordingly.
As I begin my day I think it's important I remember just how totally unimportant I am in the scope of things. However, both Mr. Khadaffi and Mr. Sheen are only doing what people allow them to do. I think things are about to change for both of them. Talk about psychological distress. I'm just Sayin'.

Headache remedies
Trying to get rid of a headache can be baffling sometimes. Recently I resorted to some of the old methods my dad told me about:
Pinch the top of my nose and humm.
Pace back and forth shaking my head from side to side.
Stand on my head in the corner.
Put one arm behind my back and stretch my neck in the opposite direction.
Roll my eyes around 25 times.
Roll my head around on my neck 25 times in each direction.
Put a warm wet washcloth on my forehead.
Put my fingers in my ears and make a lah, lah, lah sound.
Continuously rub the muscles extending up the sides of my neck.
I did the vacuuming which was my mom's tried and true method.
Watch television while sitting in a rocking chair.
As good as these ideas may be, none of them worked for me. So, at the risk of being seen as rude, I simply opened the door and asked him to leave. He'd been there far too long. He actually continued to talk as I closed the door behind him. Nice guy but he can be a real pain sometimes. You know what I mean?

Be good to yourself
I am off to a two hour session of renewing my soul. It's time to refresh myself and clear the mind. A few hours of selfishness to regain some positive outlook toward the future. A reward for my efforts. I believe we all need a reward from time to time. All work and no play and all that sort of thing keeps the weight of the world on your shoulders and it can be disheartening at times. I'm about to lift that weight from my own shoulders for a short period and regain the strength needed to forge ahead with a smile on my face and a song in my heart.
I'll let you know how it goes. But, in the meantime I wonder if you just might want to make this a day of renewal for yourself. I am lucky enough to be able to take a full two hours for myself. That is very unusual but I'm certainly not going to turn down this opportunity. If I only had an hour or even fifteen minutes I would still find a way to give myself a bit of a reprieve today. there comes a time when we all need to just take care of ourselves. This is it!

Writing and blogging and authoring
Write, blog, write, blog, write blog. That's what my publicist said to do. I write and blog because I enjoy doing them. When he told me to do it even more I could only say, "Yes!!!"
Exactly what does this get me: all this writing and blogging? Exposure maybe? Experience maybe? After 3 years I have found that it brings those and much more to my life. Cases and cases upon cases of "Joe's Story: The Book of a Lifetime" have been sold. I've had several speaking engagements combined often with book signings because of my blogging and additional writings. The experiences have been very fulfilling and satisfying. Thousands of people have taken the time to write me concerning the book and how it affected their lives for the better. I haven't made a dime from it all. That in no way diminished my pleasure in writing Joe's Story or talking to people about it.
The writing and blogging only add to the experience. I do have the dream of becoming a popular, well known writer and commentator. Only a chosen few will experience those situations. That's fine by me I guess. I'm having a great time anyway. Writing and blogging bring me internal feelings of satisfaction others will never know. I've matched wits with some really intelligent and knowledgeable people because of being a published author. Some incredibly well known people have read Joe's Story and described to me how much they enjoyed and learned from its pages of memories. The most common question I am asked is: "How did you make it into adulthood without getting killed?" My only answer: "By the grace of God."
Writing and blogging is as much a part of me as of any author out there. Maybe I'm not on the best seller list yet but that doesn't make me any different than those that are. We write because something has welled up inside of us to the point where we can no longer keep it to ourselves. Although, there are times when I feel very much like the little, tag along, pain in the butt brother I must have been to my older sibling when we were growing up. I admired my older brother and he was my hero. I wanted to be just like him. I feel like that about the authors on the best seller list too.
Meanwhile, here I sit, writing and blogging, writing and blogging, writing and blogging. Just like my publicist told me to do. That's what writers and authors do.

Evan Emory and deceit
Being young is not a good excuse for Evan Emory. When he was interviewed by a TV journalist he said he deceived the school district because that was the only way he could make the vulgar video as good as it was. That being said even after he knew he'd stepped way over the line of common decency, let alone the law.
Everyone begins life young and ignorant. We all make stupid mistakes. It's a process: this gaining of knowledge of right and wrong, common sense and morals. Most of us come through it without major damage to ourselves or others. Evan Emory messed up big time. He knew it was wrong because he lied to the teachers right from the start. He didn't ask permission to change the music and words, he hid while he did that. A true "artist" doesn't hide. Then he placed the video on YouTube for all to see. This is how "wrong" works. Do what you have to do, lie, sneak, steal, and by the time you get the job done its too late for anyone to change it and you get off Scott free. I believe that was his plan from the get-go. He didn't get away with it and now he has to pay the consequences.
I wouldn't want to see this guy get 20 years in the slammer though. Stupid doesn't deserve 20 years or even 5. I feel he should get plenty of years of public service helping abused children and adults though. Michael Vick is doing public service for what he did and is accomplishing a lot in doing so. He has even become a personal advocate for abused animals because he has had a change of heart due to what he's learned. I don't wish a young guy like Evan a lifetime of punishment. He deserves consequences, yes. But wouldn't it be better if he did some type of restitution to children and society as well. That's a win-win in my opinion.
So I say, "Evan Emory listen up and listen up quick. You can still fess up and learn from all this. It start with the realization that we do not have to accept what you've done because you are simply a harmless artist expressing yourself. You lied and did an unconscionable thing involving our children. Admit the wrong you did with the filthy lyrics being inserted into an otherwise innocent, trusting video. Accept your consequences whatever they may be and learn what morals are. It will be better for all involved and the kids you deceived will learn what type of person you really are.

Numbers sometimes lie
Lets see if I can get this right.
Three guys go hunting and rent a hunting cabin for the day. The cost is $30.
They pool their money and each one of them pays $10
The cashier says the room is on special for only $25 a day and gives them back $5
They decide they can't evenly split up $5 so they each take back a dollar which means they each paid $9. They give the left over $2 to the porter that helped them unpack.
Here is where it gets a little murky.
Each hunter paid $9. They gave the porter $2.
3 hunters paid $9 each = $27
Porter gets $2

That totals $29
Where in the world did the other dollar go?

The Today Show on NBC
Thank You NBC!!!!!!
Last week the Today Show on NBC conducted a report on CO poisoning in ice arenas. Most often caused by the Zamboni machines. If CO poisoning can happen at an ice arena, it can happen anywhere can't it? Again, Thank You NBC!!!!!!!
CO poisoning almost killed me once. For over 30 years I have tried to educate everyone withing hearing distance about carbon monoxide and it's dangers. NBC has done more in one segment than I could hope to do in a dozen lifetimes. This program will undoubtedly help prevent hundreds, perhaps thousands of people from suffering the consequences of CO poisoning. Chronic CO poisoning can cause a lifetime of major chronic health problems involving any organs of the body.
It's sneaky, this carbon monoxide gas. It lays in wait for unsuspecting victims. Invisible, odorless, undetectable for the most part without special equipment or metering devices. A person's best protection is just being aware of its existence. Thanks to NBC millions of viewers have had the opportunity to learn about it and take steps to be safe.
The show also highlighted another major point. CO poisoning attacks a surprising number of our most vulnerable, the young. They don't know what's happening. It's just another day to them. They may feel a little dizzy, nauseated, confused maybe a little sick. But kids work through that stuff every day. They just want to keep going. The gas silently continues to do its deadly work.
A major TV network like NBC has the power to help the world. They did it again this time regarding a largely ignored threat to our health. I often wonder what would be found if children were monitered for CO in the morning when they get to school. Yeah, I really wonder about that.
