Numbers sometimes lie

Lets see if I can get this right.

Three guys go hunting and rent a hunting cabin for the day. The cost is $30.

They pool their money and each one of them pays $10

The cashier says the room is on special for only $25 a day and gives them back $5

They decide they can't evenly split up $5 so they each take back a dollar which means they each paid $9. They give the left over $2 to the porter that helped them unpack.

Here is where it gets a little murky.

Each hunter paid $9. They gave the porter $2.

3 hunters paid $9 each = $27

Porter gets $2
_____
That totals $29

Where in the world did the other dollar go?

Statistics are easy to find on the Internet. Some are a lot of fun. One more statistic I found:
83% of all people take negative statistics with a grain of salt and quickly forget most of them. However, they pay closer attention to and remember longer the positive statistics.
