Use of initials instead of words= A pet peeve

POTUS- SCOTUS BOGUS? Whatever! How in the world am I to understand every cotton picking set of initials someone in the know throws out there. I realize speaking an entire long name can take oodles of time. RE: NAACP- NSPCA etc. But come on now, I work for a living, I don't have time to decipher every set if initials for every little name someone is simply too hurried or lazy to actually say the whole thing. I think those who use bunches of initials are actually elitist and want to appear superior. In my humble opinion it's getting ridiculous of late. I realize it's maybe just me but that's OK, I understand me. I don't understand a bunch of capital letters so much. Would you have guessed these?

MMATG- My mechanic at the garage
ATCHK- All those Catholics having kids
HWPUS- Hard working people of the United States
GCTV- Goofy comedians on TV
BWRO- Bloggers who rattle on

I rest my case!

Writing coach says:

Writing coach says, "Write!" By Golly I write!

My writing coach says he needs to know where I am with my writing skills at this time. He says I need to write, write, write. Well jeez! What do I write about? "Anything!" He says. So, I write about whatever is on my mind at whatever time it is that I am writing. You've witnessed the past week. The coach has been all over that too. He says its better that I blog instead of email him because I have a different voice in emails than on my blog. "Pathos changes with medium!" He says. Pathos again, I've heard that before. I've been told I have good pathos in most circumstances which brings the reader into the experience I'm writing about. Are you into what it is I'm writing about right now? Coach says I lose that pathos sometimes when I actually try to bring you into the experience. He says it is better to just write naturally and "allow" the reader to enter the experience of their own volition instead of attempting to do it for them. Huh?

Coach says it goes like this: I write what's going through my head because I am inspired, not because I want to be on the best seller list. My talent lies in my natural, uninhibited communication ability. Hmm! When it's not forced it becomes interesting. When it's forced I use too many words and my uncomfortableness becomes almost glaring and uninterestedly too wordy. I'm working on that. "Sincerity and brevity make for a good read." he says. Here I go.............Joe

Writing, which words to use?

The writing of "Joe's Story: The Book of a Lifetime" and becoming a published author took a long time. From beginning to end it was a fantastic learning experience for me. The story itself was already in my head of course, but the way of putting it on paper was really muddled. The horrors of the Carbon Monoxide poisoning and resulting near death and amnesia experience were kind of tough to deal with again. Recording it in book form became a wonderful tonic though and brought me more completely into the world so many others may take for granted.

I am quite intelligent but my many areas of expertise didn't include the rules of composition, writing and journalism. Much to my eventual dismay. As a matter of fact, my ignorance and resistance to commonly accepted rules of writing may very well have been my undoing as far as getting on the best seller list of published books. Following rules is not necessarily a guarantee to writing success but it has been my experience that it definitely does help. As an example, every professional reviewer, except one, that has received Joe's Story for an opinion has refused to go past the first few pages. If they were professional enough to give me a response, (most are actually very rude and far to aloof to offer any reply whatsoever) they simply said they were not interested in that type of story. What a loss, they had a wonderful, true, funny and heart warming, memorable story in their hands and they passed it up. Their loss but I learned not to take it personally, it was my choice not to follow the rules.

Things that still evade my understanding will always haunt me I guess. its and it's, either and neither, friends or freinds, affect or effect, just where to put a : or a ; , climbed or clumb, you know, stuff like that. The questions of this weekend are naturally save or saved, thief or angel, heaven or hell. I wonder how I could write about them? It's already been done though anyway, I'll just leave it at that....Happy Easter1

right or wrong, I just can't say

You can't tell anyone they are wrong anymore!

Recently it appears that, other than a select few exceptions the lines between right and wrong have become so blurred that telling someone they are wrong is almost considered assault. In schools kids are passed from one grade to the next, regardless of achievement levels, in part because telling them they have to repeat a grade may harm their delicate self esteem. Firing an employee because they can't keep pace is a no no. Firing someone may destroy their entire future. And, heaven forbid an employer ever say anything negative about a past employee without setting themselves up for a law suit. If a child is misbehaving in a retail store and an adult other than the parent attempts to correct him, well he/she just better be prepared for a verbal lashing about how it's none of their business. If a parent tries to discipline their own child with some sort of firm/corporal butt paddling in public and in some cases in the privacy of their own home there just may be a knock on the door from child protective services. When a person of low integrity starts blasting away with a barrage of filthy language in front of anyone, including children any offended bystander best keep their mouths closed about it lest they interfere with freedom of speech. Freedom from oppression be hanged. If a reckless driver puts others in danger causing stress and fear to others, no one should express their fear because then they are considered to have caused road rage. Don't you dare suggest that someone needs a bath, they are entitled to their own opinion of hygiene regardless of it's eye watering affect on you.

Those are only some examples but I think you get my drift here. However, there are a few favorite subjects that are completely opposite. If you wear after shave or perfume you better be ready to be ostracized for polluting the atmosphere. Don't pray on public property either, you may cause good to happen and we all know what that does. You, as a taxpayer are admonished for resisting exorbitant taxes that reduce your quality of life. Don't mess with the pay and benefits of government employees, those involved in education or elected officials or you'll be accused of conspiring against the government and just plain mean.

I read in the paper and heard on radio and TV that the authorities can't tell the difference between a pop bottle prank with dry ice and water by some not too bright college students and a terrorist bomb attack. That's what I mean. Kind of interesting isn't it? One guy calls it being wrong without any consequences, unless you are right in the first place but then you're wrong to express it which makes you wrong all over again but being wrong is quite OK you understand, don't let it hurt your feelings.

It looks like rain but I'm probably not right or wrong about that....................Joe
